How treatment works

Exam.
Your dentist examines the tooth, takes X-rays and explains the options.

Preparing the tooth.
The tooth is shaped under local anesthesia so the crown fits.
- 03
Your crown or bridge.
It is matched to your bite and the shade of your teeth, then fitted. With CEREC, this can happen in the same visit.
How much does a dental crown cost?
The fee depends on the tooth, the type of crown or bridge and any treatment the tooth needs first, such as a filling or a root canal. Your dentist explains the fee before you decide on treatment. To check your insurance, send your details to the office you plan to visit.

Questions about crowns and bridges
A crown came off. Is that an emergency?
Keep the crown and call the office. If it doesn't hurt, it can often wait for a regular visit, but the tooth underneath is exposed, so don't leave it for weeks. Pain, swelling or a broken tooth needs a call the same day.
Crown, bridge or implant?
A crown restores a tooth you still have. For a missing tooth, a bridge uses the neighboring teeth, while an implant replaces the root itself and leaves them untouched. Your dentist will compare them for your case. More about dental implants
How long does a crown take?
A CEREC same-day crown can be placed in one visit. Other crowns take more than one visit. Your dentist tells you which applies to your tooth.
